Yone Guide

Mid

Yone is a mobile crit skirmisher who reaches backlines and turns teamfights. Way of the Hunter makes every second attack deal magic damage and doubles his critical strike chance, Mortal Steel thrusts forward and its third cast dashes and knocks enemies up, Spirit Cleave strikes a cone and shields him, Soul Unbound sends his spirit forward and snaps him back after a few seconds, dealing a share of the damage he dealt to marked enemies, and Fate Sealed blinks him behind the last champion in a line, knocking up everyone hit toward him. He is hard to punish once he has his first items.

Start Doran's Bow and a Health Potion. In mid lane, upgrade your boots into Gunmetal Greaves and then rush Immortal Shieldbow, followed by Infinity Edge, Bloodthirster, Death's Dance and Guardian Angel; the boots upgrade gives enough attack speed with Lethal Tempo, and getting crit as early as possible matters after his recent crit buffs. A more classic build is Yun Tal Wildarrows, Berserker's Greaves, Immortal Shieldbow, Bloodthirster, Death's Dance and Wit's End. Phantom Dancer with Infinity Edge, Bloodthirster, Death's Dance and Spirit Visage, played with Conqueror, Second Wind and Overgrowth, is strong early when the enemy has few tanks. Take Blade of the Ruined King, Terminus and Iceborn Gauntlet only against many tanks or health stackers, or in top lane. Run Lethal Tempo with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Cut Down, plus Conditioning and Overgrowth. Take Flash with Exhaust, Ignite against healers and tanks such as Vladimir or Sylas, or Cleanse against Lissandra, Syndra or heavy crowd control. Max E, then Q, then W.

Strengths

  • Lots of mobility and burst damage.
  • Great access to the enemy backline.
  • Fate Sealed can turn teamfights, and he scales well.

Weaknesses

  • Fragile and easy to kill, especially in lane.
  • Expensive items and a hard early game to play.
  • Difficult matchups such as Akali, LeBlanc or Pantheon.

Laning Phase

Mid lane is the easier place to play Yone: the boot upgrades allow more varied builds, matchups are easier, and you can rotate to other lanes or help your jungler. In top lane, champions such as Fiora, Kled, Ambessa or Sett can knock you out of the game, and Yone is very vulnerable to ganks, so new players should start in mid. Yone is weak before his first items, so against strong early laners like Akali or Pantheon, farm and wait for their mistakes instead of forcing trades. Use short trades with Soul Unbound to poke and return to safety, and dodge key abilities with it.

Mid & Late Game

Once you have Immortal Shieldbow and Infinity Edge, Yone becomes very hard to stop: dive the backline, chain knock-ups from Mortal Steel into Fate Sealed, and use Soul Unbound to go in and snap back out of danger. Look for Fate Sealed angles that hit several enemies in a line. Group with allies who have knock-ups or crowd control, since his ultimate and Mortal Steel combine well with their engage.

Key Tips

  • Soul Unbound snaps you back after a few seconds, so you can dive, deal damage and return safely.
  • The third Mortal Steel dashes forward and knocks up enemies, setting up Fate Sealed.
  • Fate Sealed blinks you behind the last champion hit, pulling everyone in the line toward you.
  • Against Jax or Riven, dodge their key abilities with Soul Unbound rather than trading head-on.
