Yasuo Guide

Mid

Yasuo is a mobile melee skirmisher who turns crit into a deadly mix of mobility and burst. Way of the Wanderer doubles his critical strike chance and builds Flow as he moves, which becomes a shield when he takes champion damage. Steel Tempest thrusts forward and its third cast fires a whirlwind that knocks enemies up, Wind Wall blocks enemy projectiles, Sweeping Blade dashes through an enemy and gets stronger with each consecutive dash, and Last Breath blinks to an airborne enemy to suspend them. He thrives on dashing between minions and combining his knock-ups with his team's.

Start Doran's Blade and a Health Potion in good matchups. The new meta build is Blade of the Ruined King, Immortal Shieldbow, Infinity Edge, Bloodthirster and Guardian Angel, with Berserker's Greaves, Plated Steelcaps or Mercury's Treads depending on the enemy team. A bruiser alternative opens with Kraken Slayer, then a Cloak of Agility held until Immortal Shieldbow, followed by Stridebreaker and either Iceborn Gauntlet and Jak'Sho, The Protean against physical damage or Kaenic Rookern and Jak'Sho against magic damage; swap Kraken Slayer for Blade of the Ruined King when needed. Run Fleet Footwork with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Last Stand, plus Second Wind and Overgrowth, against heavy poke or for a safe lane; Conqueror with Absorb Life, Bone Plating and Overgrowth is the aggressive early page. Take Flash with Exhaust, Teleport against long range or in top lane, or Ignite for early all-ins. Max Q, then E, then W.

Strengths

  • Huge mobility through minion waves with Sweeping Blade.
  • Wind Wall blocks key projectiles for himself and his team.
  • Last Breath combines with any knock-up for strong teamfight engages.

Weaknesses

  • Squishy, so burst mages and point-and-click crowd control punish him.
  • Needs a minion wave or enemies to dash through to use his mobility.
  • Long-range and poke champions make his early lane hard.

Laning Phase

Against poke-heavy laners, take the Fleet Footwork page and play for sustain, last-hitting with Steel Tempest while saving Wind Wall for their key projectile. Dash through minions with Sweeping Blade to close the gap when an enemy steps up, and land the third Steel Tempest whirlwind to knock them up for a trade. Exhaust and Flash help you survive and win all-ins against burst threats. Against early all-in matchups, the Conqueror page and Ignite give more kill pressure.

Mid & Late Game

In teamfights, look for knock-ups from your whirlwind or from teammates' crowd control to cast Last Breath on several enemies at once, and use Wind Wall to block the enemy's important projectiles for your team. Immortal Shieldbow and Guardian Angel help you survive after diving in. Use Sweeping Blade through minions and enemies to reposition, and never dash in before the enemy's key crowd control is used.

Key Tips

  • Steel Tempest cast during Sweeping Blade hits in a circle around you.
  • Last Breath can be cast on any airborne enemy, including those knocked up by allies.
  • Wind Wall blocks most projectiles, including many ultimates; save it for the important one.
  • Sweeping Blade cannot target the same enemy again for a few seconds, so plan your dash path.
