Veigar Guide

Mid

Veigar is weak early and an easy target for assassins, but by finishing minions with Baleful Strike he gains enormous AP and can delete whole teams by the mid to late game. Event Horizon is his main tool for engaging, escaping and zoning.

Our beginner page is Summon Aery with Axiom Arcanist, Transcendence and Scorch, plus Bone Plating and Overgrowth for a safer, health-scaling game. Its many alternatives include Unsealed Spellbook, Electrocute, Stormraider's Surge and First Strike pages. Against poke lanes swap Bone Plating for Second Wind, and Manaflow Band or Gathering Storm are options in the primary tree. Take Flash and Teleport in mid. Start Doran's Ring and a potion and buy Tear of the Goddess early. Our scaling build is Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Rod of Ages, Seraph's Embrace, Cryptbloom, Rabadon's Deathcap and Zhonya's Hourglass, with Banshee's Veil, Shurelya's Battlesong or Hextech Rocketbelt by matchup. Imperial Mandate, Bloodletter's Curse, Morellonomicon and Blackfire Torch are other situational options, and Mercury's Treads help against crowd-control-heavy mid laners such as Syndra or Lissandra.

Skill Max Order

Event Horizon E
Baleful Strike Q
Dark Matter W

Strengths

  • Huge damage potential that keeps scaling with his stacks.
  • Event Horizon is powerful crowd control, especially into immobile teams.
  • Good wave clear after level 9 and low cooldowns with enough ability haste.

Weaknesses

  • Weak early and an easy target for assassins.
  • Immobile and very vulnerable once Flash is down; weak against tenacity.
  • Dark Matter is easy to dodge without the cage; long-range champions are a problem.

Laning Phase

Don't force early fights: farm, last-hit big minions with Baleful Strike for stacks, and poke now and then. Against assassins and all-in lanes like Akali, Tristana, LeBlanc or Diana, hold the wave near your tower and wait for melee minions to die before walking up at level 1. Take Bone Plating against Ekko, Fizz, Qiyana or Jayce. Hold Event Horizon until Katarina or Fizz commits, and time it after Zed's shadow expires. Buy Mercury's Treads against Syndra. Aim for 80–100 stacks by 10 minutes and 180–220 by 20.

Mid & Late Game

Once you have your first items, combo E, W, Q, then R to kill your lane opponent, take the first tower, and start moving to other lanes. You'll be the first target in teamfights, so keep your distance and use Event Horizon to block engages or stop enemies walking to Dragon. Supports who set up the cage, like Poppy with Heroic Charge, Alistar or Blitzcrank, pair best with him.

Key Tips

  • Ward the brush beside Baron and stand behind it — cage anyone who tries to steal it.
  • Tanks like Ornn, Dr. Mundo and Tahm Kench can survive your full combo.
  • Against Akali, wait two seconds after she uses her shroud, then cage it.
