Vayne Guide

ADC

Vayne is a hyper-scaling duelist who shreds tanks with true damage. Night Hunter gives her bonus movement speed when moving toward visible enemy champions, Tumble rolls a short distance and empowers her next attack, Silver Bolts deals bonus true damage based on the target's maximum health on every third hit, Condemn knocks an enemy back and stuns them if they hit terrain, and Final Hour gives her bonus attack damage, triples Night Hunter's speed and makes Tumble grant a second of stealth. She is weak early but can take over late games.

Start Doran's Bow, a Health Potion and a Stealth Ward, and buy a Tunneler, Pickaxe or Recurve Bow with boots and a Control Ward on your first back. The standard power spike is Experimental Hexplate, Essence Reaver and Stormrazor, finishing with Fiendhunter Bolts, Terminus and Jak'Sho, The Protean with Berserker's Greaves. When snowballing, Blade of the Ruined King, Guinsoo's Rageblade and Experimental Hexplate with Wit's End and Terminus is the on-hit path; Trinity Force with Lord Dominik's Regards and Guardian Angel is another option. Kraken Slayer, Immortal Shieldbow and Yun Tal Wildarrows are other damage picks, Mercurial Scimitar, Randuin's Omen and Kaenic Rookern are defensive, and Mortal Reminder handles heavy healing. Take Plated Steelcaps, Mercury's Treads or Boots of Swiftness when you need defence. Run Lethal Tempo with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Coup de Grace, plus Conditioning and Overgrowth; Absorb Life with Cut Down and Triple Tonic or Nimbus Cloak, and Press the Attack, are alternatives. Take Flash with Barrier, Heal or Cleanse. Max W, then Q, then E.

Strengths

  • Silver Bolts' percentage true damage makes her one of the best duelists against any champion, tanks included.
  • Final Hour stealth gives huge outplay and playmaking potential in teamfights.
  • Excellent kiting and chasing with Tumble and Night Hunter.

Weaknesses

  • Short attack range makes laning dangerous against poke lanes.
  • Condemn needs a wall to stun.
  • No built-in wave clear, so slow pushes and dives are dangerous.

Laning Phase

Vayne's early game is about survival and calculated trades. Her level 1 is weak, so focus on last-hitting and avoiding poke. Her level 2 spike with Tumble and Condemn gives outplay potential, but never force extended trades: the bread-and-butter trade is an attack, Tumble and an empowered attack to proc Silver Bolts, then back off. Use Tumble to dodge skillshots and reposition for last hits, and learn the walls near the lane, such as the tri-brush corners, to pin enemies with Condemn. Flash plus Condemn can stun an enemy against a wall.

Mid & Late Game

Vayne scales into a late-game monster. Stick to the same target in fights to keep proccing Silver Bolts, since swapping targets resets the stacks. Activate Final Hour before any major fight or skirmish rather than holding it too long, and use its stealth Tumbles to dodge targeted abilities, break enemy targeting and reset tower aggro; takedowns extend it, so chain kills with Tumble. Save Condemn to peel divers such as Hecarim, Rengar or Leona, or to stun targets against walls.

Key Tips

  • Silver Bolts does not work on towers or epic monsters, so it is a champion-killing tool.
  • Condemn applies a Silver Bolts hit if the target already has two stacks.
  • Tumbling into walls shortens the roll animation, letting you attack faster.
  • Night Hunter's bonus speed triples during Final Hour, making you almost impossible to kite.
