Taric Guide

Support

Taric is a tank support who protects his carries and wins fights with timing. Bravado empowers his next two attacks after each spell, making them faster, dealing bonus damage and lowering his cooldowns, Starlight's Touch heals himself and nearby allies, Bastion gives him armor and links him to an ally so his abilities are also cast from them, Dazzle fires a delayed beam that stuns enemies hit, and Cosmic Radiance makes him and nearby allies invulnerable after a short delay. Weaving attacks between spells keeps his stun coming back quickly.

Start World Atlas, a Health Potion and a Stealth Ward. Choose your support upgrade by game: Solstice Sleigh when ahead and landing stuns easily, Celestial Opposition against heavy burst or when you need to be tanky, Dream Maker for long extended fights, and Bloodsong for aggression. Usually build Sapphire Crystal into Glacial Buckler and Frozen Heart against physical damage, or Tear of the Goddess into Fimbulwinter against magic damage. The standard full build is Celestial Opposition, Mercury's Treads, Locket of the Iron Solari, Frozen Heart, Knight's Vow and Kaenic Rookern; swap in Redemption for teamfights or Thornmail for anti-heal. An aggressive one-item spike is Celestial Opposition with Ionian Boots of Lucidity and Bandlepipes, while full physical damage teams call for Plated Steelcaps and Bandlepipes, and full magic damage teams for Solstice Sleigh, Fimbulwinter, Kaenic Rookern and Force of Nature. Run Glacial Augment with Hextech Flashtraption, Biscuit Delivery and Jack of all Trades, plus Manaflow Band and Transcendence; Approach Velocity with Bone Plating and Revitalize suits heavy trading lanes, and Guardian with Font of Life, Bone Plating and Revitalize is the safe page. Take Flash with Ignite to snowball, or Exhaust for safety. Max E, then Q, then W.

Strengths

  • Cosmic Radiance can turn teamfights and dives by making his whole team invulnerable.
  • Dazzle cast through his Bastion ally gives him tricky stun angles.
  • Strong sustain and great synergy with aggressive ADCs and divers.

Weaknesses

  • Dazzle's delay makes the stun hard to land on mobile targets.
  • He depends heavily on ability haste and attack weaving.
  • Poke and kite lanes such as Lucian, Caitlyn or Draven can bully him.

Laning Phase

Take Dazzle at level 1. At level 2, take Starlight's Touch if you or your ADC got chunked, if you need to be healthy for an early gank that cannot set up your stun, or if your ADC does not want to fight early; take Bastion if you are even or ahead on health, your ADC can set up your stun (like Lucian or Samira), or your jungler is ganking with crowd control. Weave attacks between abilities: with about 50 ability haste, four attacks fully reset Dazzle after the first cast. Use Hextech Flashtraption to find surprise stun angles, which out-values free boots once it gets you a few takedowns.

Mid & Late Game

Bind Bastion to your strongest carry and stand where your Dazzle can be cast from both of you. In teamfights, time Cosmic Radiance before the enemy burst lands so your team survives the engage or a dive, and follow your divers or engage carries into fights. Knight's Vow helps protect a specific carry, and Locket of the Iron Solari shields the whole team against area damage.

Key Tips

  • Each spell empowers your next two attacks, and those attacks reduce your cooldowns, so always weave attacks.
  • Dazzle is also cast from your Bastion ally, giving you stun angles from two positions.
  • Cosmic Radiance has a delay, so cast it just before the burst arrives.
  • Around 52 ability haste lets you reset Dazzle with four back-to-back attacks.
