Swain Guide

Mid

Play Swain as an aggressive lane bully: Conqueror and Ignite for early kill pressure, then a burn-heavy AP build around Malignance that turns Demonic Ascension into a long-lasting teamfight drain. Some details may reflect older seasons; compare them with current stats.

Conqueror with Presence of Mind, Legend: Haste and Coup de Grace, plus Manaflow Band and Transcendence to fix his mana issues; an Electrocute page with Cheap Shot, Grisly Mementos and Ultimate Hunter is the alternative. Take Flash with Ignite for early kills, or Teleport for map pressure or Ghost for mobility. Start Doran's Ring with two potions and buy Lost Chapter, a Refillable Potion and a Control Ward on your first back. The core is Malignance, Sorcerer's Shoes and Rylai's Crystal Scepter, then Liandry's Torment, Shadowflame and Rabadon's Deathcap. Swap to Mercury's Treads into heavy CC or AP teams, pair Shadowflame with Void Staff for burst, consider Blackfire Torch instead of Malignance, and buy Oblivion Orb against heavy sustain.

Summoner Spells

Flash
+
Ignite

Strengths

  • Versatile — he can build full damage or lean toward off-tank.
  • Huge area damage and sustain in teamfights with Demonic Ascension.
  • Good pick potential, and Vision of Empire safely scouts unwarded bushes.

Weaknesses

  • Severe mana problems, especially early.
  • Immobile and squishy early, so he's easy to gank without Flash.
  • Nevermove can be hard to land, and healing reduction weakens his ultimate.

Laning Phase

Death's Hand is your main poke in lane. Flash and Ignite let you look for kills before level 6, which can snowball into first blood. Without Flash you're very immobile, so respect the enemy jungler. After 6, Demonic Ascension gives you strong sustain to stay in lane.

Mid & Late Game

Fight in tight, high-traffic areas where Demonic Ascension hits several enemies and a single Nevermove can root multiple targets. Layer your crowd control — the root, the pull and the Vision of Empire slow — to keep enemies locked down. Delay reactivating your ultimate to drain as long as possible, but always recast it before you die. Later on, play around Zhonya's Hourglass and avoid fights while it's down.

Key Tips

  • Don't face-check bushes late — scout them with Vision of Empire.
  • Surprise combos like Q into Flash or R into Flash can secure kills.
  • Rylai's Crystal Scepter slows make it easy to kite and stick to targets.
