Sett Guide

Top

Sett is a juggernaut top laner who brawls in melee range and stores the damage he takes. Pit Grit makes him alternate left and right punches, with the right punch reaching farther and hitting harder, and gives him more health regeneration the lower his health is. Knuckle Down speeds him toward champions and empowers his next two attacks, Haymaker releases the Grit he has stored from taking damage as a cone that deals true damage in its centre and shields him, Facebreaker pulls enemies on both sides into him and stuns them if both sides are hit, and The Show Stopper grabs a champion and slams them down, damaging everyone nearby based on the target's health.

The build is Plated Steelcaps, Stridebreaker, Black Cleaver, Sterak's Gage, Overlord's Bloodmail and Spear of Shojin. Take Hullbreaker second if you want to split push, Boots of Swiftness against ranged champions or many slows, and Warmog's Armor over Sterak's Gage when the enemy has Serpent's Fang; Ionian Boots of Lucidity are a cheap alternative. A dueling build adds Blade of the Ruined King or Sundered Sky, and an infinite-scaling health build stacks Heartsteel, Titanic Hydra, Overlord's Bloodmail and Warmog's Armor. Attack damage and health are his best stats, while crit and lifesteal are poor on him. Run Conqueror with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Last Stand, plus Shield Bash and Second Wind, or Bone Plating in melee matchups; Hail of Blades is an early cheese page, Fleet Footwork works against ranged laners, and Grasp of the Undying is the safe option. Take Flash with Ignite to snowball, Ghost against ranged lanes, or Teleport. Max W, then Q, then E.

Strengths

  • A big teamfight threat who can lock down priority targets and dive enemies.
  • Soaks damage and turns it into a true-damage Haymaker.
  • Versatile: he can split push or teamfight, and he is strong at offensive and defensive dives.

Weaknesses

  • Immobile and easily kited, with no dash to dodge projectiles.
  • Predictable, since everyone expects his ultimate on the tankiest champion.
  • Falls off in 1v1s later unless he builds specifically for dueling.

Laning Phase

Use the extra range of your right punch to land free hits while farming, and use Knuckle Down as an attack reset: attack twice, then Knuckle Down for two more empowered punches. Facebreaker is your main trading tool: stun your opponent, interrupt dashes or guarantee the centre of Haymaker. Haymaker has a long cooldown early and can only store as much Grit as your current health, so misusing it opens you up to all-ins. Against ranged or poke laners such as Gangplank or Teemo, take Fleet Footwork, max Haymaker and regenerate with your passive; against Darius never fully commit while he is at full health and Haymaker when he ults. Diving with Sett is strong because tower shots build Grit and the shield helps you get out.

Mid & Late Game

In teamfights look for poorly positioned enemies, especially tanks, and use The Show Stopper to slam them into their backline, or lock down melee threats such as Yasuo, Irelia or Camille who come to you. Ranged carries need a flank, Flash or your ultimate to reach. Use Facebreaker through thin walls to separate enemies, and keep Haymaker for when you have stored enough Grit. Work around enemy vision to find flanks, since your engage is predictable.

Key Tips

  • Attack twice, then cast Knuckle Down to reset your attack for two more empowered punches.
  • Hit the centre of Haymaker for true damage; Facebreaker's stun makes that much easier.
  • The Show Stopper damage scales with the target's health, so slam the tankiest champion into their team.
  • Against Jax, buffer Haymaker just before his stun for a guaranteed true-damage hit.
