The standard page is Deathfire Touch with Nimbus Cloak, Absolute Focus and Scorch, plus Bone Plating and Unflinching. Other options include Arcane Comet, Stormraider's Surge, Conqueror, Electrocute, Dark Harvest, First Strike and Grasp of the Undying pages. Flash and Ignite are standard. Take Ghost into Darius, Olaf or Nasus, Teleport for safe or low-kill-pressure lanes, or Exhaust into auto-attackers and burst champions. Start Doran's Ring, or Doran's Shield in hard lanes. Liandry's Torment and Zhonya's Hourglass are the core, and the standard build adds Bloodletter's Curse, Rabadon's Deathcap, Morellonomicon and Sorcerer's Shoes. Other builds use Hextech Rocketbelt and Shadowflame for Arcane Comet, Riftmaker and Jak'Sho for Conqueror, or Stormsurge and Horizon Focus for full damage. Max Q first.

Strengths

  • Many viable rune pages and builds for different matchups.
  • Strong kill pressure early with Ignite and a slow from Electro Harpoon.
  • The Equalizer is a huge teamfight ultimate, especially next to allies with hard crowd control.

Weaknesses

  • Stat-checked by Mordekaiser after level 6 and outscaled by tanks like Ornn.
  • Long-range mages like Anivia, Varus and Xerath, and champions like Naafiri, whose packmates block his Electro Harpoon, are very hard lanes.
  • Struggles into auto-attackers and burst champions like Irelia, Master Yi or Fizz without Exhaust.

Laning Phase

The matchup notes come down to dodging key skillshots, like Irelia's E, Ahri's charm or Cho'Gath's Q, and managing the wave so enemies can't freeze on you. Fight Ornn early, before he stacks resistances, and stay away from walls. Avoid isolated fights with Mordekaiser after 6, and don't get baited by a low-health Sett or Warwick. Against Naafiri, take Doran's Shield, Second Wind and Exhaust. Buy anti-heal early against Irelia.

Mid & Late Game

Junglers and supports with hard crowd control, like Nautilus, Sejuani, Amumu, Leona, Rell or Jarvan IV, make The Equalizer much easier to land. Exhaust and Electro Harpoon's slow also help set up ganks and peel the enemy's main damage dealer in teamfights.

Key Tips

  • Pair Ghost with Stormraider's Surge to run down Darius or Olaf, though you don't have to.
  • Teleport is the pick when you want to scale safely into the mid game.
  • Bone Plating and early anti-heal help most against Irelia.
