Rell Guide

Support

Rell is a tank support with one of the best engages in the game. Break the Mold lets her attacks and abilities steal armor and magic resist, Shattering Strike breaks shields and stuns, Ferromancy: Crash Down leaps her off her mount to knock up enemies while Mount Up dashes her back onto it, Full Tilt speeds up her and an ally to start or escape fights, and Magnet Storm pulls every nearby enemy toward her. Flash into Crash Down and Magnet Storm can lock down an entire team, making her a playmaker who sets up her ADC and jungler.

Start World Atlas and a Health Potion, and buy a Chain Vest and a Control Ward on your first back. Finish the support quest into Celestial Opposition, with Solstice Sleigh as an alternative, and build Boots of Swiftness, Bandlepipes, Zeke's Convergence and Locket of the Iron Solari, then Redemption or Knight's Vow for a fed ADC. Against heavy magic damage, take Mercury's Treads and add Abyssal Mask, Kaenic Rookern or Hollow Radiance; against physical damage take Plated Steelcaps and add Randuin's Omen, Frozen Heart or Sunfire Aegis; Jak'Sho, The Protean fits both, Thornmail cuts healing, and Dead Man's Plate adds speed. Run Glacial Augment with Hextech Flashtraption, Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight, plus Nimbus Cloak and Celerity; take Bone Plating and Revitalize instead against heavy crowd control. Take Flash with Ignite, or Exhaust when you need it. Max W, then E, then Q.

Strengths

  • One of the best engages in the game with Flash, Crash Down and Magnet Storm.
  • Hard crowd control that sets up ganks and kills, and great roaming potential.
  • High durability and good synergy with most ADCs.

Weaknesses

  • Little burst damage of her own; she needs her team to follow up.
  • A bad engage without follow-up can get her killed.
  • Disengage and poke supports such as Janna, Lulu or Ashe make her engages hard.

Laning Phase

Rell lacks burst, but her engage is strong: chain Shattering Strike and Crash Down, since the delay between them lets the second stun land once the first hits, and hit enemies as many times as possible to steal their resistances with Break the Mold. Poke with Shattering Strike when it will not hit minions first, and use Crash Down to engage when enemies are near their minions or your tower, especially with your jungler or mid laner nearby. Keep Full Tilt to start a fight or escape, and do not get baited into using it early. Stay in the bot lane until your support quest is done around 11 to 12 minutes, and only roam after crashing the wave into the enemy tower.

Mid & Late Game

From level 6, Magnet Storm makes her a potent gank threat, so roam mid or invade with your jungler to secure deep vision and objectives once your quest is complete. In teamfights, lock down priority targets with Shattering Strike and Crash Down and use Magnet Storm to pull the enemy formation together, then peel for your carries. Around dragon, Rift Herald and Baron, zone enemies away with your crowd control and soak damage while your team takes the objective.

Key Tips

  • Flash into Crash Down and Magnet Storm is one of the strongest engages in the game.
  • Shattering Strike breaks shields, so use it on shielded targets before your team bursts them.
  • Do not waste Full Tilt early; it is your main tool to start fights or escape.
  • Hextech Flashtraption lets you engage from unexpected angles out of brush.
