Pantheon Guide

Top

Pantheon is an aggressive fighter who dominates lane and roams with his ultimate. Mortal Will empowers his next basic ability after five attacks or abilities, Comet Spear can be tapped for a quick thrust that refunds most of its cooldown or held to throw it at long range, Shield Vault leaps onto a target and stuns them, Aegis Assault raises his shield to block all damage from the front before slamming it down, and Grand Starfall launches him across the map to crash into a target area. He is a great blind pick, simple to play and strong even from behind.

Start Doran's Blade and a Health Potion every game, or a Long Sword with a Refillable Potion if you feel greedy. Sundered Sky and Black Cleaver are his best items: Sundered Sky's crit applies to all three hits of an empowered Shield Vault, and Black Cleaver stacks almost instantly from empowered Shield Vault and Aegis Assault; build Sundered Sky first unless your laner is a tank. Complete the build with Plated Steelcaps, Sterak's Gage, Guardian Angel, which is always better than Death's Dance on him, and Kaenic Rookern against magic damage, or Maw of Malmortius against moderate magic damage. Eclipse can be a first item when snowballing, Lord Dominik's Regards helps against health stackers, and a lethality build with Voltaic Cyclosword and Bastionbreaker works against ranged top laners. Run Press the Attack with Triumph, Legend: Haste and Cut Down, plus Manaflow Band and Scorch, against champions you can Shield Vault onto and against teams with three or more squishies; take Conqueror against tanks. Take Flash with Ignite, or Teleport against laners who play safe. Max Q, then E, then W.

Strengths

  • A great blind pick: very few top laners are unplayable for him.
  • One of the strongest early laners, with a point-and-click stun in Shield Vault.
  • Grand Starfall makes him an excellent roamer who stays useful even after losing lane.

Weaknesses

  • Tanks and sustain champions such as Malphite, Nasus or Dr. Mundo are hard for him to kill.
  • Duelists like Fiora and Darius and scalers like Kayle can beat him.
  • Not good at taking jungle camps or scaling like other top laners; he must keep fighting.

Laning Phase

Laning is simple: in the first five levels play aggressively, harass with Comet Spear and push for lane priority, since few champions can contest you at level 1. Spam tapped Comet Spear without running out of mana; against weak laners hold Comet Spear back so they cannot farm safely, and save it for the execute range when the enemy is low. Keep Mortal Will stacked, even by throwing Comet Spear into thin air when you are not fighting. If you cannot Shield Vault the enemy, vault onto a minion to close the gap for a tapped Comet Spear. Use Aegis Assault to block key abilities, such as Garen's ultimate, and empowered Aegis Assault to chase or escape.

Mid & Late Game

Once you can roam, watch mid and bot: it is fine to crash a wave, recall and Grand Starfall into bot lane if you can kill both laners, and roaming is also how you get back into a game after losing lane. After laning, shove side waves, group for fights and look for roams; joining fights matters more than a few plates. In late-game teamfights, go in with Shield Vault and walk out with Aegis Assault, or cast Grand Starfall slightly behind the enemy team to sandwich them for your team.

Key Tips

  • Shield Vault cannot be dodged, even with Flash.
  • Grand Starfall works as a pseudo-Teleport back to lane, but crowd control cancels it.
  • Using Grand Starfall fully stacks Mortal Will, so you can engage with an empowered ability right after landing.
  • Hold Comet Spear until the enemy is in execute range when they are close to it.
