Lux Guide

Support

Lux is a long-range mage played as a support and in mid lane. Light Binding roots up to two enemies, Prismatic Barrier shields her and her allies on the way out and on the way back, Lucent Singularity slows an area and detonates for damage, and Final Spark is a long-range laser on a short cooldown for an ultimate. Illumination marks enemies hit by her spells so her next attack detonates it for bonus damage. She wins through poke, picks with Light Binding and finishing enemies with Final Spark from a safe distance.

As a support, start World Atlas and a Health Potion. Below Diamond, a full-AP build gives you the most agency: complete the support quest into Zaz'Zak's Realmspike, rush Luden's Echo, then Sorcerer's Shoes, Stormsurge, Rabadon's Deathcap and Cryptbloom, with Arcane Comet, Manaflow Band, Transcendence and Gathering Storm plus Magical Footwear and Cosmic Insight. In higher elo, switch to an enchanter build: against three or more squishy enemies, Solstice Sleigh, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Shurelya's Battlesong, Locket of the Iron Solari and Knight's Vow, finishing with Bandlepipes, Imperial Mandate or Redemption, using Summon Aery with Manaflow Band, Celerity and Scorch plus Triple Tonic and Cosmic Insight; against three or more tanks or bruisers, Zaz'Zak's Realmspike and Tear of the Goddess into Echoes of Helia, then Moonstone Renewer and Dawncore. Take Flash with Heal and max E, then W, then Q. In mid, start Doran's Ring, a Health Potion and a Stealth Ward; build Malignance, Sorcerer's Shoes, Stormsurge, Rabadon's Deathcap and Cryptbloom against squishy teams, or Blackfire Torch, Ionian Boots of Lucidity and Liandry's Torment against tanks, finishing with Zhonya's Hourglass or Banshee's Veil. Mid Lux runs Arcane Comet with Axiom Arcanist, Absolute Focus and Gathering Storm plus Cheap Shot and Ultimate Hunter, takes Flash with Teleport, Barrier against assassins or Cleanse against Zoe or Lissandra, and maxes E, then Q, then W.

Strengths

  • Very long range lets her poke and finish kills from safety.
  • Light Binding can root two enemies and sets up picks for her team.
  • Flexible: she can build full AP for damage or enchanter items to protect her team.

Weaknesses

  • Squishy with no mobility, so assassins and divers can reach and kill her.
  • Missed skillshots, especially Light Binding, leave her with little to offer.
  • Mobile champions are a nightmare; in mid, the Yasuo matchup is close to unplayable.

Laning Phase

As a support, poke with Lucent Singularity and Light Binding from long range, and weave an attack after each spell to detonate Illumination. Use Light Binding to set up your ADC: it roots the first two enemies it hits. Lucent Singularity also damages minions, so avoid shoving a wave your ADC wants to keep. Swap to Oracle Lens once your support quest reaches 400 gold and start clearing enemy vision. In mid, swap to Farsight Alteration in the mid game, or as early as level 9 if the enemy jungler and support have little gank pressure.

Mid & Late Game

Stay behind your frontline and poke before fights; land Light Binding on a key target, then follow with Lucent Singularity and Final Spark. Final Spark comes back quickly, so use it to poke, finish low enemies at long range or clear waves. With the enchanter build, put Knight's Vow on your team's win condition and use Shurelya's Battlesong to engage or chase; Imperial Mandate is best when your team has other crowd control that helps you land Light Binding. In mid, Malignance with Ultimate Hunter keeps Final Spark available very often.

Key Tips

  • Weave an auto-attack after each spell to detonate Illumination.
  • Light Binding roots up to two enemies, so it can still catch a champion standing behind one minion.
  • Lucent Singularity grants vision where it lands, which helps you check brush.
  • If your Knight's Vow partner dies, you can move it to another ally, but mind the cooldown.
