Kayle Guide

Mid

Kayle is very weak and easy to punish before level 6, she farms safely, gives up minions rather than HP, then takes over with her level 11 and 16 spikes, side-lane pressure and a game-changing Divine Judgment. We recommend top lane below Master and mid lane above it.

Press the Attack with Absorb Life, Legend: Alacrity and Last Stand, plus Celerity and Gathering Storm; swap the secondary to Second Wind and Overgrowth in poke-heavy mage lanes. Take Flash with Teleport, or Ghost or Ignite situationally. Start Doran's Blade, Doran's Ring or Doran's Shield. Your back depends on gold: Cull and boots at 750, a Recurve Bow or Blasting Wand at 1,000, and Boots of Swiftness plus Cull or Recurve Bow later — Blasting Wand is best into mages, Recurve Bow into melee champions. The core is Boots of Swiftness, Nashor's Tooth, Dusk and Dawn, Rabadon's Deathcap and Shadowflame, finishing with Banshee's Veil, Void Staff or Zhonya's Hourglass. Against Kassadin only, build Kraken Slayer, Guinsoo's Rageblade and Terminus. Don't buy Statikk Shiv. Start E, then max Q.

Strengths

  • Scales better than almost any champion and can 1v9 late.
  • Insane wave clear and side-lane pressure from level 11.
  • Divine Judgment can turn whole teamfights.

Weaknesses

  • Extremely weak early, with the lowest level 1 magic resist in the game.
  • Very limited winning matchups; mages like Azir, Syndra, Viktor, Orianna or Karma are miserable.
  • Immobile, struggles against gap closers, and a single early mistake is costly.

Laning Phase

Stay above about 75% health, farm from range and accept losing some minions rather than HP, Flash or your life. After level 6 and your first back, start short trades — auto, Radiant Blast, then walk out of range. Keep your passive stacked: five autos give full attack speed and bonus movement speed, and the stacks fall off after five seconds without attacking. Against melee lanes, use that speed to auto them as much as possible.

Mid & Late Game

From level 11, move to a side lane opposite the action: your empowered autos now fire waves that clear minions almost instantly. Aim for 8.5–9 CS per minute, take towers when fights elsewhere are lost or unnecessary, and steal enemy camps on your way out. Use Teleport and Divine Judgment to join important fights rather than walking into random ones.

Key Tips

  • Ban Karma in mid lane, or Jax in top lane.
  • Don't die in lane — deaths delay your level 16 spike.
  • Only two setups exist for Kayle; don't try to get creative with runes or builds.
  • Taking a second-tier tower alone is worth a lot of gold to a scaling champion like Kayle.
