Jayce Guide

Top

Jayce games are won in lane: manage the wave and 'push structure', land Shock Blast consistently instead of throwing it randomly, then turn your lane lead into side-lane pressure and close the game before you fall off. Lethality with Youmuu's Ghostblade is the default, with Black Cleaver against several tanks.

Conqueror with Presence of Mind, Legend: Alacrity and Cut Down, plus Cash Back and Triple Tonic, is for aggressive lanes like Irelia, Sylas, Jax or Aatrox. Grasp of the Undying with Demolish is the safe page against level 1 divers, and Electrocute suits mid-lane one-combo matchups like LeBlanc or Zed. Take Flash with Teleport about 90% of the time, or Ignite in all-or-nothing matchups like Aatrox, Olaf or Fiora. Start Doran's Blade, then buy Tear of the Goddess and a Long Sword — or Serrated Dirk if you're well ahead. The standard build is Youmuu's Ghostblade, Manamune, Serylda's Grudge and Ionian Boots of Lucidity, then Edge of Night when the enemy has no tanks. Against several tanks, go Black Cleaver, Manamune and Spear of Shojin; rush Executioner's Calling against heavy healers, and Serpent's Fang against shields. Don't rush boot upgrades.

Strengths

  • Strong lane control and poke with Shock Blast and Acceleration Gate.
  • Tank matchups are close to free if you avoid mistakes and ganks.
  • Flexible runes and builds for every kind of matchup.

Weaknesses

  • Falls off in the late game, so he must convert his lane lead.
  • Missed Qs cost you lane control and get you pushed back.
  • Rengar, Yorick and Urgot are extremely hard, and Irelia or Tryndamere must be punished before they scale.

Laning Phase

Push the wave with high Q accuracy — throw Shock Blast from angles where the enemy can't see you, or use hammer form Q at close range, rather than missing from max range. Balance pushing with safe positioning and respect gank timings, especially on aggressive runes. Tanks are your easiest lanes: keep your push structure and avoid ganks. Against Cassiopeia or Sion, farm safely rather than forcing fights.

Mid & Late Game

Turn your lane lead into side-lane pressure and close the game before Jayce falls off. If your team has no frontline, keep your first two damage items and add Black Cleaver and Sterak's Gage or Jak'Sho to become a tanky damage dealer.

Key Tips

  • With Grasp of the Undying, Demolish adds valuable side-lane tower pressure.
  • Plated Steelcaps when the enemy top and jungle are both AD; Boots of Swiftness into Olaf or Gwen.
  • Gangplank can win even after mistakes because of his one-shot potential — farm safely.
