Jarvan IV Guide

Jungle

Jarvan is a dive initiator: gank early with the Demacian Standard and Dragon Strike combo, use Cataclysm to trap priority targets, and lead your team into decisive fights. He works best with teammates who have follow-up and against immobile, squishy carries.

Conqueror with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Coup de Grace plus Magical Footwear and Cosmic Insight is the main page; Domination secondaries with Sudden Impact add burst, and Press the Attack suits aggressive gank-heavy games. Take Flash and Smite, usually with the Gustwalker pet for map speed (Mosstomper against heavy CC). Buy Oracle Lens on your first recall. The meta build is Sundered Sky, Plated Steelcaps and Black Cleaver, then Frozen Heart, Spirit Visage and Guardian Angel; Sterak's Gage and Mercury's Treads suit bruiser games, while Profane Hydra, Axiom Arc and Eclipse open lethality paths.

Strengths

  • Some of the strongest early ganks in the game, especially at levels 2–3.
  • Cataclysm is a fight-defining, hard-to-escape engage.
  • Flexible builds — tank, bruiser or lethality — plus strong objective control.

Weaknesses

  • Commits fully to every engage; a missed E+Q leaves him exposed.
  • Cataclysm can isolate him with dangerous enemies or trap his own carries.
  • Damage falls off late, and mobile or disengage-heavy teams can avoid him.

Laning Phase

Get a healthy first clear while saving mana for early impact, using your flag to check brushes and scout invades. Your level 2–3 gank threat dictates the enemy jungler's movements: gank lanes with follow-up or enemies pushed past the river, and aim for first blood or summoner spells. Gank winning lanes to snowball rather than trying to rescue losing ones.

Mid & Late Game

With Cataclysm you become the fight commander: catch isolated carries during rotations, zone and shred objectives with Dragon Strike, and set up flank engages with E-Q-R from vision. Use Golden Aegis right after engaging to absorb the retaliation. Late game you are the primary engage — flank with E-Q-Flash-R to catch priority targets, and sometimes use Cataclysm to zone enemies away from an objective instead of going for a kill.

Key Tips

  • Practice E-Q-Flash and E-Q-R until they're instinctive.
  • Auto-attack right after your combo to trigger Martial Cadence.
  • Ping your target before you Dragon Strike so teammates can follow up.
  • Flank from unexpected angles — a frontal engage is easy to counter.
  • Never use Cataclysm in a way that traps your own carry.
