Briar Guide

Jungle

Briar is a self-healing jungle skirmisher who cannot fully control herself. Blood Frenzy launches her forward and makes her attack the nearest enemy until it ends, healing her with every bite; Head Rush stuns a target and makes her focus it, Chilling Scream cancels the frenzy, and Certain Death sends her across the map at the first champion it hits. She is very strong in early skirmishes and snowballs leads, but only when you choose her fights carefully.

Take Mosstomper Seedling as your jungle pet; Gustwalker Hatchling is fine if you prefer movement speed. Rush Titanic Hydra, then Black Cleaver, Plated Steelcaps and Endless Hunger; swap boots to Mercury's Treads against heavy crowd control, or Gluttonous Greaves when you do not need defensive boots. Finish with Death's Dance against physical damage, Spirit Visage against magic damage and Guardian Angel late; Blade of the Ruined King is the best dueling item against health stackers, and a lethality setup with Voltaic Cyclosword and The Collector suits a riskier assassin style. Run Press the Attack with Triumph, Legend: Haste and Coup de Grace, plus Sudden Impact and Treasure Hunter; Magical Footwear with Cosmic Insight is the more consistent secondary, and Lethal Tempo is a strong alternative keystone. Take Flash and Smite. In top or mid lane the same author prefers Ignite with Teleport or Flash and a Resolve secondary with Second Wind. Max W, then Q, then E.

Strengths

  • Very strong early skirmishes and invades.
  • Big healing lets her win both short trades and extended fights.
  • Certain Death covers huge distances for picks and flanks.

Weaknesses

  • Pressing Blood Frenzy without a plan often gets her killed, because she keeps chasing the nearest target.
  • Crowd control and kiting punish her all-ins.
  • She needs good jungle tracking and macro; sending into five people loses games.

Laning Phase

The standard path is a full clear into Scuttle Crab, then look for a fight; the aggressive option is one camp into an invade when you know where the enemy jungler is from their farm or the minimap. Let the enemy jungler commit to your laners and counter-gank, and when they take something, trade by taking camps or an objective elsewhere. For a basic all-in use Blood Frenzy, Head Rush, an attack, then the second W, and E if needed; for a controlled engage use W, an attack, Q and a few attacks, then either finish with W or press E to stop the frenzy and back off.

Mid & Late Game

In the mid game force skirmishes rather than full teamfights, because Head Rush lets Briar punish any misposition. Late in the game let the enemy make the first mistake instead of sending immediately, then use Certain Death for picks and flanks and turn them into objectives. In smite fights at dragon, go over the wall with W, Head Rush the monster so Briar focuses it, then press the second W together with Smite.

Key Tips

  • Chilling Scream cancels Blood Frenzy, so save E to stop yourself from chasing into danger.
  • Head Rush makes Briar prioritize that target while she is in frenzy.
  • Only press Blood Frenzy when you know you win the fight.
  • Track the enemy jungler at all times and invade the side of the map they are not on.
